Networking helps in the job search

I am in week two now of the job search and have found that the only solid contacts have been those made through a series of friends. Ian has helped me build contacts with Cincinnati Bell Technical Services, Troy has made sure my resume got to the right people at Accenture and Darryl has gotten my resume in the hands of the IT Director at BigLots. These opportunities are all better than the blind mass-emailing spree. There are also a series of head-hunters that want to broker me a position, but while they are endlessly confident I think I am the only one who can “deliver the goods”. Should hear something next week!!

Job search has begun…

Thanks to the poor economic conditions in the automotive market, I am now forced to search for new employment. I enjoyed my 3 years at Reynolds and wish all those left there well. So far the opportunities in the local market are very slim, so 90% of the resumes I am submitting are going to Cincinnati or Columbus. I am also looking at federal government jobs for the first time. The applicaton process for government jobs is lengthy, so I am not holding my breath for those opportunities. Homeland Security is growing leaps and bounds right now and I expect that opportunities with them will only continue to grow. I have a phone interview today with Standard Register. They are a great company (one of the last ones in Dayton) and I look forward to an opportunity to work for them. Hopefully they are looking for senior, experienced product managers and not entry level.
